We would also like to encourage you to sponsor a child, a group of children or a member of staff. Sponsorship does not involve any preferential treatment, but reinforces a sense of personal value, gives the sponsor a more intimate view of how the work in India is progressing through regular letters from the sponsoree. We encourage sponsors to write back, but arrangements are kept in place to restrict direct contact for a number of reasons of good governance.
We suggest £30 per month to sponsor a child. This is close to our average all-up cost of care (including school and informal clothing), a good diet, medical treatment if needed, and all educational needs.
If you are considering sponsoring, please contact Mrs Marianne Mathers at The Lodge, Farringdon, North Petherton, TA6 6PF, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or telephone 01278 663704.
As a Christian charity, we value the power of prayer, and encourage such support. In particular, every Saturday, at 12.30pm in the winter and 1.30pm in the summer, we stop for 10 minutes when the homes in India also stop for prayers, especially for the resources needed to sustain Christiana Childrens Homes. Any urgent prayer needs are communicated to a UK "prayer chain" by text on Saturday morning.
If you are already support CHIT, and work like to tell your family and friends about us, you can of course direct them to this website. But we also publish a tri-fold promotional leaflet with gift aid insert. You can download these here, but if you require a significant number, please contact us at our general inquiries address:
To maintain and widen awareness of CHIT, we welcome invitations to speak to your group, whether it is a school, club, church, or other setting. To set a presentation up, please contact us at our general inquiries address.
Visiting and volunteering
We welcome interest in visiting the homes in India to see the work first hand (especially with a view to fund-raising), and also to work in a voluntary capacity. Working among children requires strict governance in India, just as it does in UK, and both visitors and volunteers will need to provide assurances like DBS certifications and expect some restrictions. Currently our highest priority is for people who can manage English conversation with people at various levels of proficiency.
